If you’ve ever bought a pair of chaps off the rack, you know there’s usually some part of them that doesn’t fit quite right. Stock size (small, medium, large, etc.) chaps are mass produced almost exclusively overseas. They are cut by machine and pieced together so there are seams at the knee, fringe is sewn on separately and a piece of elastic is put in next to the zipper so chaps can accommodate different sizes. And the quality of the leather used is always questionable. Why pay more for imported one-size-fit chaps when you can have top quality genuine leather chaps custom made to your specific measurements and design preferences?

A little background on our business: We started as hobby leather crafters making tooled belts, wallets and purses, and rebuilding saddles. Eventually, the hobby turned into a full-time business, and we sold our first pair of custom chaps in 1979. Since then, we have made thousands of chaps in many different styles and colors as the whims of the horse show world have evolved. We have made chaps and outfits for Quarter Horse Congress queens, World Champion Appaloosa owners, national hunter/jumper exhibitors, and even theater costumes. In 2007, we were contacted by the Oklahoma City Lyric Theater to make chaps for the lead actors in their production of “Oklahoma!” in honor of the Oklahoma state centennial. It was interesting to make new chaps that looked like they’d been worn for years.

For those who just want a plain, no-frills pair of work, trail or schooling chaps, we make those too. Or if you need a flashy pair of rodeo chinks, we can provide those for you. Just let us know what you need.

Our chaps are custom fit to you. How do we make chaps to fit you when you live hundreds of miles away? We have a measurement form that has very specific instructions on how and where to take the 10 measurements we will use to make your unique pattern. We do confirm those measurements with you before we cut the leather since we guarantee our chaps to fit the measurements you provide.

Chap leg is cut in one piece, side to side including fringe strip. No piecing or weird seams
Our fringe is hand cut at an angle, so that it hangs properly
Zippers are #5 YKK brass cut to exact inseam length

With custom chaps you have many options. Some are standard options that are included in the base price of the chaps. Standard options are: type of leather (smooth, suede-out smooth or split suede), style of yoke (signature scroll, scalloped or English), style of back belt (single concho, double concho, double concho adjustable, or buckle), length of drop cuff (no drop, 3” half drop, or 6” full drop), and length of fringe (no fringe, scalloped edge or 4”).

Beyond the standard options, we offer many add-ons at additional charges to make your chaps as unique and eye-catching as you want. A list of add-ons with prices is included with our information package.

If you are looking for a specific color or shade, let us know with your inquiry and we can send samples of what we have available. With some colors, it may be necessary to get current samples from our supplier. We do advise though if you are planning to get a complete new outfit, start with chaps first before other clothing – there are far more shades of cloth than leather so it is easier to match clothing to chaps rather than chaps to clothing.
